PHP Developer


Reporting to the Software Project Manager, the PHP Developer will be part of a team developing web-based PHP applications and maintaining our infrastructure. The successful candidate will be building backend and frontend interfaces as well as database architecture. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in DevOps skills such as AWS, CI/CD, and security.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Application development in PHP/MySQL
  • Assist with Laravel/React conversion
  • Javascript and HTML5
  • Maintain and enhance HTML web sites on an as-needed basis
  • Manage cloud deployment infrastructure (AWS)
  • Establish and manage CI/CD pipelines
  • Technical architecture documentation
  • Advise on architecture and code security and assist with security audits
  • Focus on data security and assist with security enhancement initiatives
  • Work with the Project Manager to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget
  • Assist in quality control of projects
  • Implement the strategic goals and objectives of Xpan Interactive Ltd
  • Ensure a high standard of client service and execution
  • Ensure processes are developed, documented and implemented

Skills and Expertise

  • Laravel/React framework
  • PHP, SQL, Javascript, and HTML5 programming languages
  • APIs
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work remotely as an effective member of a team
  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills, and
  • Knowledge of design and development methodologies for web-enabled applications
  • Amazon Web Services (EC2, RDS)
  • Secure code development
  • Containerization (Docker)
  • CI/CD

Education & Experience

  • Software engineering degree, IT degree, or diploma in application development
  • 3-5 years of experience as an application developer
  • Proven experience working in a team environment, and
  • Experience with Scrum/Agile is an asset
  • DevOps experience is an asset


  • Other duties may be required from time-to-time
  • Position can be remote, candidate ideally located in Calgary, Alberta (must be a Canadian citizen and reside in Canada)
